Accessibility
This website was made using xhtml and css to enable users to take control of how they view the site. All pages adhere to w3c build standards and AAA accessibility.
The site is constructed in such a way as to be usable without styles applied and images are not necessary for functionality. Other features include …
- Skip to content link (s)
- Relative font sizes to facilitate text resizing
- All forms fields have labels associated with them
- Important images use the
altattribute to describe them - Images purely for design have an empty
alttag to minimise clutter - HTML mark up is used for it's semantic value and not it's display properties
Levels of compliance
We try to exceed the expected levels of compliance for all aspects of building our websites; xhtml, css, 508 and WCAG. However as a retailer we receive promotional material from 3rd parties which may not conform to the same standards.
CEL will endevour to reformat any 3rd party supplied materials to make them as accessible as possible but we may not be able to provide full transcripts of promotional videos and the like as required by the WCAG specifications.
Resizing text
We have not included an inpage text resizer as we feel it is more productive to enable people to make their own choices about how they wish to access our content
If you wish to resize the text in your browser on this and other websites you can do the following …
- Internet Explorer: View > Text Size
- Firefox: select View > Text Size
- Opera: select View > Zoom
You may also be able to use ctrl and +/- to resize your text as it has become a standard of many modern browsers.
JavaScript and other technologies
Where ever possible we have tried to use JavaScript only to enhance the user experience so that all core functions work for all users of this website.
Should JavaScript be needed for a particular feature we have endevoured to make it degrade gracefully or have added the feature to the page using JavaScript itself. This means that when JavaScript is not present the features will not be displayed thus avoiding the problem.
